As the Social Media Manager and Event Director for Goodwill, Stampede Season was a highlight of my job. I kicked off the season on July 1st with a mission to visit every Goodwill store in Calgary, collecting unique Stampede attire to showcase on our social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
Our Shop Thrifted for Stampede campaign quickly caught the attention of local news stations, resulting in a filmed segment featuring the thrifted outfits and our organization's mission and values. I proudly stepped up as Goodwill's head spokesperson, sharing the amazing finds and promoting sustainable thrifting as a way to look stylish while giving back to the community.
As a part of my role, I organized a free pancake breakfast event for the community, bringing together employees and volunteers to flip pancakes and serve up delicious food. I had made prior arrangements with a local guitarist to provide live music, adding to the event's lively atmosphere. Families started lining up early in the morning, and the event drew a large crowd, filling up the parking lot.
The preparation and planning that went into the event paid off with smiles on the community members' faces. We captured the memorable moments through photos and videos, which we posted on our website and social media platforms.
As a part of Goodwill's team, it was fulfilling to witness the positive impact we were making on the community while celebrating Stampede season. My role as Social Media Manager and Event Director allowed me to be creative, plan exciting events, and promote Goodwill's mission and values to a wider audience. I was proud to have been a part of such a fantastic team that values sustainability, community support, and thrifting as a way to look stylish while making a difference.
